MARIE PEETERS
“My artistic practice often acts as an outlet or sobering up for the rural life and vice versa.”
Marie is a Belgian visual artist specializing in photography and video, supplemented by performance art when the project calls for it. Working in both analog and digital media, she emphasizes the analog process in her personal practice, a conscious choice to enhance authenticity and depth in images.
In 2024, Marie received her master's degree in fine arts, with a specialization in photography, from LUCA School of Arts, Brussels. Her artistic practice forms a dialogue between her two worlds: the art world and the rural world. This tension and the search for balance are recurring themes in her work, often with a loving view of animals and nature as a common thread.
With an experimental and open-minded approach, Marie enjoys stepping into the unknown. She embraces the process of exploration without prior knowledge, allowing surprising perspectives and new insights to emerge.
Outside of her work, Marie has been a passionate horse lover from a young age; she began riding when she was five years old. She now has several horses and also participates in competitions, which is a large and important part of her life.
A big inspiration is Orla Barry, who, like Marie, intertwines her rural life with her art.
